Liberty Bike and Bus Rides

Thank you Joy, Kevin, Pat, Eric and Gary for joining me on the ride! Joy and Kevin got to do a little "off-roading" on the rail trail as it skirted the road.

Bus tour took in Fallsburg, Neversink, Liberty, Grahmsville and other towns with a stop at the Stone House for a wonderful lunch and inside peek at that wonderful structure!

Snow and Ice

Freezing Rain and then Snow Showers along with dipping temperatures have put Sullivan County back in White this past week. However, there are no accumulations on the roads, only on the grass and trees, lending a picturesque view of the county in the upper elevations.

Low lying areas in Livingston Manor have been lucky in that Cattail, Willowemoc and Beaverkill are still within their banks dispite the increased precipitation experienced in the county this past weekend and today. H2O continues to fall in various forms throughout the area. Rivers are murky brown, water surges downstream making outdoor exploration of Mother Natures forces a real site to behold!

So don some wet weather clothing and take a walk, if not a bike ride to See, Hear and Feel the weather!

March 27, 2007

& April 3rd

DeBruce Road
I took a ride from Livingston Manor to Round Pond after work via DeBruce Road.
Temp - Starting out at 58'F, I dressed with arm, leg and toe warmers expecting to take them off during the ride. That never happened, 58'F in town is not the same when you are riding next to 32.1'F rushing stream!
Road - The road made it through the winter freeze and thaw in great shape. Last years repaired sections are still in great shape. No potholes. Shoulders have a little sand, but nothing to worry about. Update 4/3 - Traffic is extremely light north east of DeBruce 2-3 cars at most.
Wild life - I saw a Common Loon on the river going downstream (but the way the river was flowing, he actually may have been trying to go upstream).
Sites - the streams are wonderful this time of year. North East of DeBruce the Willowemoc has Ice Sheets nested on the river banks. Blue Ice Sheets are a foot thick and piled high. Update 4/3 - the ice sheets are still there along with the snow on the far bank.
