NY to CALIFORNIA
Teik will be traveling from NY to California. He’s made his own panniers from old kitty litter buckets. He’s going for many reasons, to clear his head, cardio training for his professional mixed martial arts fighting career and to visit his uncle in California. He hopes his riding will help bring awareness to people to care for one another and help our fellow man in need.

RENO to the CATSKILLS
This active lady is doing a five week vacation in one! Visiting from Reno, she made a side trip to the Catskills, staying at Lanza's, enroute to a friends wedding in Long Island. Her plans include Kyaking, Horseback riding, Hiking the Rails to Trails, Road Bike and a Mountain Bike rides and site-seeing! [Phew...gotta rest...]
Planning her trip well in advance, Charlie will be escorting Helaine to a Covered Bridge on the road bicycle ride and then to Minnewaska for the mountain bike ride. Charlie will be showing her places of interest, both natural and man-made (Guilded Otter Brewery), and routes for her site-seeing trips!
So meet Helaine, with a super smile......

It's Boston to Chicago for Four Adventurous Souls
Who's idea was this anyway? Not ashamed to own up to it, Alex and Adam admitted to coming up with this idea.... but as a joke. Convincing Beth into doing the ride gave way to her dragging Christa into doing it as well.
The foursome all attended North Eastern University in Boston, Mass. and ride primarily as a means of transportation. Well, I guess they wanted to see Chicago?
They made it! A message from our travelers follows:
"Hey there! Yep, we made it to Chicago yesterday afternoon [5/23], after being on the road 18 freakin' days, haha. We got to Oberlin College 40 miles west of Cleveland last friday, took a day of rest on saturday, and then biked the last 350+ miles in 4 pretty grueling days. We biked about 90 miles 3 out of the 4 days, and one of those days was definitely over 100 miles. It was nice and flat all through Ohio, but the western wind is really very strong without any hills blocking it, and we were biking through 90 degree heat. Phew! Glad that's over with! It still hasn't set in yet that we just biked well over 1000 miles in 2 1/2 weeks, we're all kind of stunned that we actually made it. Tomorrow we're thinking we're going to to the Chicago Critical Mass, which is a sort of bike rally held in every major city the last friday of every month. Boston has it too, essentially all the bikers take over the streets, blocking traffic and making a hundred-strong parade of bikers rambling through the streets. We figure its a fitting end to our travels, and we're gonna try to get some pictures of us in it to make postcards for everyone who helped us on our journey, including you guys! We don't have any pictures readily available yet, they're still on my camera, but don't worry, you'll be sent some! I can't believe we made it! My junky old Murray held up like a champion, never even getting a popped tire. Christa's brand new Aurora also made it completely unscathed. Adam and Conrad popped at least 20 flats between the two of them, never willing to admit that they weren't properly inflating their tires, haha. Adam's rear hub got worn out and had to be replaced at Allegeny NY (the bike mechanic there cannibalized his own wheel to fix Adam's, bike shop people are wonderful people), and Conrad blew out another spoke and his crank fell off in the final homestretch, hahaha. But we made it!"

    Adam

A Brooklyn, New York Native, Adam has the longest rides of the group having riden from Geneva to Zurich and back. While in Switzerland he purchased a used Specialize bike for about US$400 and it would have been a great deal.... except the airlines had changed the luggage rules from the time he purchased it until the time he went home a month later.

 Alex
Living in Westchester, New York, Alex's previously longest ride was Amhurst to Boston about 90 miles. Alex rides the least expensive of the group - a bike given to him from Adam's dad.

 Beth
An experienced cyclist, riding up to 40 miles along the old Erie Canal, Beth comes from Rochester, New York. A pole vaulter, she had a serious injury 1.25 years ago vaulting when she came down wrong. Coming back from nearly loosing the leg, she's inspired to go the distance in this ride!

  Christa
The youngest of the group, Christ lives in Leighigh Valley, Pennsylvania and owns the most expensvie bike of the foursome. She rides a new Jamis and her longest bike adventure until now was 80 miles in length. Do we see a future avid cyclist here?
